I must have been living under a rock because I have never heard of this game until my friend brought it to my attention a few weeks ago. After watching the demo for this game at the E3 conference I must say that it is one of the best games I have ever seen.
For any of you, who have never heard about this game or the series: Elder Scrolls, watch this video to see what Skyrim is like.
I'll probably put down a pre-order if I have the money in October... Most of my cash will probably be spent on a figure of Unicron coming out around the same time. @.@ It's so difficult to balance hobbies...
Either way, I only recently started playing Elder Scrolls titles, and I've got to say, these games teach me just how much I really love immersing myself in a world and, well, role playing. I like playing these sorts of games to be a character, unlike a lot of RPGs where I simply play to win, regardless of what I do would be in-character or not. It's a little harder to do with a lot of other games, but the fact that Elder Scrolls makes it easy to do is really what gets me into it. I just hope my computer is strong enough to handle this...
Day 1 purchase, easily. Wise of BioWare pushing Mass Effect 3 back a few months to avoid sales conflict with such a tremendous release. Skyrim will subjugate and destroy anything else sprouting up during the holiday season. Oh, wait, Call of Duty 3 is coming out. Argh...
I have yet to finish Oblivion. I never do the main quest. I end up journeying about and getting my character to a point where when enemies seek to inflict harm on me, they hurt themselves.
I sincerely wish the super psychic guards were nerfed. We should be alotted our freedom to pillage a hub or crush a town under a whim. Who are they to stand in our way?

Hah, the guards are definitely one of the hardest things to get around in Oblivion. They definitely seem psychic at times when they come out of nowhere and try to arrest you. I tend to like playing a thief, so they're a thorn in my side. But they serve their purpose, and it makes the game a little harder.
Of course, if you're sick of the guards, you could always have a little fun by putting the game on the lowest possible difficulty and killing them off. I've done it a few times just to take my anger out on them.

I haven't thought of that. I went an alternate route and, instead, took a modded save from a website and, using my broken physical stats, waltz over to a random citizen and strike him or her down with barely a sweat break. I grinned as the Imperial Guard dashed over to me. I readied my fist to lay him to rest when he first engaged me in conversation. He gave me a pleasant smile, made light of the situation, insisted I was "a friend" and that the incident would be kept between "I and him".
I lost all will to go on. ...And I still haven't completed the main quest.
