The decision to close the thread was the correct one. Mindless attempts to flame were being dished out in most of the posts.
To prevent further problems, the thread was closed. The moderator who closed it was doing everyone a favour because if they didn't take the course of action, everyone would have received a 3 point flaming infraction.

Actually, I was the one who closed it down. It had nothing to do with who's right or wrong. I had some complains about it (it wasn't from either side, btw) and it was getting out of hand, so instead of infracting people, I decided to just lock it before it got worse.
