What the hell? This Patch isn't going to take nearly as long as you think it will.
We could have this finished in a few months. Technology in gaming isn't going anywhere important in that time period.
EDIT: Also, in regards to the poster above whom I did not see, an English Patch would make them consider an American release a whole lot more than they are thinking about it now.
But again, your opinion. Fact of the matter is, we can all sit here and dish on it all we want; until the patch is done and we present it to them, we won't know, will we?
So instead of *****ing that we're either gonna get one or we're not, we should all work on the patch. If you love this game, help with the patch. Its not even hard.

No one said anything about making an English server Raised. Simply adding the completed English patch to the games install .exe and allowing the end user to decide what they want the default language to be in. The only thing that would need to be done past that, is making a sister site for DBO, which could easily be hosted on the same server they are currently hosting their TW site, but making the page English. They don't need to change the layout, all it is, is a translation. With that in mind, they don't even need to go as far as to mirror the site, they could just at a "TW" or "ENG" button to the top of the page they already have, allowing English speaking players to easily find and download the installer. No extra anything needed at that point. No need for servers/web hosts/whatever.
@ Jaxill: Well of course it wont last. Nothing goes on forever. You make it seem like the game is having it's final nail driven into the coffin however, and I say we're far from that point, even more so if we can actually do something about this English patch becoming something "official".

Do you think if we complete the patch, we could ask them if they want to use it to develop the game for western audiences?

Actually the very first question was if we think that they would develop the game for western audiences. Developing a game doesn't just mean to translate it. It also means to give the audience a nice ping. Sure you can get some tools to get a better ping to the tw server. But that is still NOT develop a game.
A game needs a decent ping, decent translation, decent content.
A decent ping is just given if there is a server near yourself + the connection is doing well.
A game with a ping of 300+ isn't that nice to play if it comes down to pvp and one part of the game is the dojo fight. Sure even with a ping of 300+ you can still fight in pvp, but it isn't the same as having a match with a ping of 20-50ms.
EDIT:
/word on Jaxills post after this one. I don't want to talk bad about making the englishpatch 100% (working on a german patch myself). It's just that people shouldn't think a patch is all needed to get the game running on a better way.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from helping on the English patch. I just don't want people to get their hopes up thinking the patch will do magic on this game. The problem isn't the language barrier, every one of the foreign players proves that we don't need it to be in English to play. The problem is it's overall gameplay.

You're seriously underestimating how much of a barrier the game not being in English is.
You don't NEED English to play, per se. However, I can name 16 people that I know (and off the top of my head!) That refuse to play this game because its not in English.
Its NOT all that's needed, but its definitely a step in the right direction. English Patch > More Players > More Desire to spend in the store > publishers/developers pay more attention > English Website/downloader. Also: More interest > more motivated devs > more content > more updates and bug patches.
I think all of you are just afraid to believe in anything. Its sad.

If you haven't noticed I'm completely ignoring most of you points and basically just talking to Phe0nix now, why? Because you are taking this way to personally and its pretty annoying. You think it's sad I can't beilive in anything? Who the hell are you to make a comment like that? You know nothing about me and are just upset that I am disagreeing with your idea. S please stop complaining about me "*****ing" just because my opinion is different from yours.
Your views are very short sided, as Raised said it takes more then translating the game to make a full release, and I seriously doubt there is a lack of English translators in China Korea or Japan.
NTL makes the same amount of money from wasabii and Netmarble regardless of players by selling the rights to them. It's wasabii and Netmarble who choose to spend there money on useless updates and sell quick money with the cash shop. The whole way dbo is run just screams short sale.
Just because there are more players doesn't mean more money will be spent on development, thats NTL's end not Wasabii, Not Netmarble.

Again @Raised, no. I clearly said in my post before that, the first hurdle would be creating a full English patch. I said that was the first big hurdle. If you continue to read my post you will see it says something to the effect of "this is the first big hurdle that needs to be cleared. We can talk about how well a game would do in a wider market after". Not a direct quote, but is basically the same message. As in, I obviously know English patch =/= developing a game.. I work on ESF, I know what it entails and I know what ping is and why it can be an issue. I said this is the first stepping stone to broadening the scope of the game by allowing more players/possibly more cash flow with them. Things like this create a snowball effect in companies and they see the want and desire, so they work harder to put more content out/make people happy.
In the long haul, if the game started doing better as a result of more players, I can easily see Namco Bandai supporting and helping release the game internationally (since they are majority IP title holder in games) which would include those 'nice servers'. It's all about getting the ball rolling, and it has to start somewhere. When you make a snowman, you start out with a single snowball not much bigger then your hand.
@Jax: You again say the issue is gameplay, and I again point your attention toward WoW. How well an MMO does, is obviously not based on this fact. For example, I love the game because of the story. I couldn't care less about the gameplay, I play for the story. You have to remember that not everyone that plays an MMO, plays it expecting it to be like Uncharted or... Halo or whatever. Majority of the time, they play it (at first) for the lore behind it. If it's good, they tend to stick around a bit and see what the game has to offer in PvP and other end game stuff. We've already been over that the game isn't totally balanced, and I've already said that it's getting closer and closer to that with every update. End game, ehh.. But that's something that could easily be focused on if there was a spike in numbers, which we can't deny, we would see with a full English patch.
Again, I'm not here saying the game is doomed to fail, or it's destined to reach the stars. I'm here saying the game is still at a middle ground, and there is reasons it can go both ways. The first thing we can do, as a community, to tip it towards the latter, is finish the English patch, and make sure it's *good*. Again, that's the snowball. What remains to be seen by anyone, is if there is enough snow on the ground to make a decent sized snowman.

Who cares who's making money? The point is, the people releasing the updates and content will be getting money from this, so there's really nothing you're saying in your argument that is different from mine in that regard.
Its cute how you're attempting to turn the conversation onto me in your frustration. I'm not trying to offend anyone, man. Are you really surprised that I'm disappointed in people, including you, being naysayers? This is important to me and a lot of other people, and just because YOU don't have any faith in the game or the patch, you have convinced yourself that it is doomed to fail.
Come to think of it, if the game is this bad and the patch doesn't matter, why in the world are you even here? The arguments you're making and the examples you're giving are completely null and void.
And honestly, I don't care if you say you're ignoring me; fact is, you read my posts in order to respond with what you did. My points are valid, whether you like it or want to believe it or not. A 100% Eng. Patch is a HUGE step in the right direction, and you have no way of saying the outcome any more than we do. So while we hope for the best situation, you sit in your little corner and consistently expect the worst, and there's no reason for it. Its sad. Have a little faith, man. Some hope. It can't possibly harm you.

The only reason why I say you shouldn't think it is that easy, is because there are people out there which actually think that it can happen, as soon as they read a single sign.
While we just talk about if it could happen and stuff other people could imagine that it WILL happen because we allready talk about it. Your little bit of hope in the 100% english patch is okay and I guess Jaxill and me got them too, but there are people out there who are reading more then the words actually mean.
So while you just pray for a little bit of hope, they start to wish. While you talk about a possibility, they talk about a happening.
We don't say it won't happen because we don't have the faith. We say that we guess it won't happen because it isn't as easy as you make it sound like. If people just read your posts they will actually be able to think that it will happen. While if they read our posts they see that there is more then just some translated words which are needed for an english version. And YES we actually talked about an english version. Just a translated TW Server wouldn't make that much of a difference, because 90% of the western mmorpg community doesn't care for games hosted on asia server. If they would people would actually rush SEA server, but the most people actually wait for NA/EU server. And if anyone wants to come up with translations now. Games hosted on SEA servers are mostly allready translated in english.
We have hope and faith. But we are realistic. We do think about more then just the frontline.
