if you built the servers from ground up with original code it would be legal like SWGEmu. the difference is gonna be that we dont have discs for this game and idk if the neeeded files are on our end or theirs. and it would be illegal to save the files from the server. now a smart techie could backward engineer this rework it and make it better (its happened in the past with mmo's)but they would have a lot of coding to do and if it isnt 100% legal the creator/hosts can face legal repercussions and players can get their ip banned from the ip's company's network of games

SWG EMU is only "legal" if you own the CD's. Downloaded versions, even ones that where downloaded from the official SOE site when the game was live don't count.(The download was free, yes there was a monthly subscription but the download was free and you got a free trial to lvl 15 or sumthing like that). There is no CD for DBO.
Not to mention, this was a popular game, that had a lot of people working on it. And not only that but it is the Pre Combat Update that is emulated, not the final game.
When people spent 1 year of solid grinding to achieve Jedi which was so fucking difficult to do, and then have SOE nerf it throught the fucking basement and make it a starter class they may be passionate about emulating the the original game.
Nobody gives a rats arse about DBO.
Yes there is no way for SOE to check if you actually do genuinely own the CD's, but they used this as a loophole to make it legal.
Basically if you have purchased something and own a hard copy you have a right to play it/use it, thats how its legal.
For instance if you buy a car, you have a right to drive it, The company you bought it from can't 1 day decide OK thats enough, we are crushing that car.
Likewise if you borrow someones car you cant then decide one day after they have taken back possession of that car, that you want to take it out for a ride.
And if you steal a car then you have no rights what so ever and you are breaking the law.
With DBO its free, and you didn't purchase anything, you have no hard copy.
If you cashed, you cashed for items in the game, not the game itself. This does not count.
