Hey guys,

I'm just getting off of work today, where I have had a lot of time to think. And I had a great epiphany today. So bear with me.

We all pretty much have a great opportunity here in the DBO community, having immersed ourself into a completely different culture and language, whether it is online or not. Personally, I am going to take advantage of it.

The English patches are awesome ideas. Apparently we have someone here working on a better version too, which I am really excited for. Shoutout to Kakashisma. Brilliant man. However, at the current time, we are still surrounded by these strange looking characters. Why not make the best of it.

It would be very easy for us all to learn to read, write, and understand the Korean language if we were to take full advantage of our resources right now. And here would be the way to do it:

1) Learn the Korean alphabet, and how to read and write. You don't have to learn any words yet. Just learn what characters represent what sounds. This is actually far easier than it sounds. I went to http://www.learnlangs.com/RWP/Korean...Lesson%201.htm where there are six free lessons you can take. They are really easy and don't take much time. No registering or anything. Easy. I spent my time at work doing this.

I completed these lessons in about 4 hours, taking notes and everything. And I now know the Korean alphabet. Very easy. I can read Korean letters now and translate them into Romanized Korean (which for those that don't know, it's Korean written in English letters.) In addition to this I can also write these letters, and I find that to be easier than reading it. I'm reading slow right now but that will pick up with time.

2) Find a site that translates Romanized Korean into English. Then read a phrase from a quest or something in Korean, jot it down in Romanized Korean on a notebook, or use a word processor if you prefer, and then input it into that site. Then prepare for the most beautiful thing: understanding....

Do this, and you'll be on your way to learning Korean in no time. Eventually words will start to become familiar to you. And you will get to the point where you don't need to use the dictionary. This, I believe would be an amazingly quick way to learn the language. And I will be doing this.

On top of being able to play the game better, this could benefit you in real world situations. For example, I am a military intelligence agent. That is all I am really allowed to say about my job. But knowing another language can benefit me tremendously.

I'd recommend you guys give it a shot. Let me know what you guys think. Hell, we can even learn it together. I am also convinced that there are some that have already started the learning process so kudos to them. Let's NOT be the typical ignorant Americans (in my case) and reject something so easy.

Definition of innocence- Not knowing something.
Definition of ignorance- Willingly choosing not to know something.

First Post.

I agree. Military Intelligence Agent? I plan on trying to join National Guard myself.. taking the ASVAB test this Friday.

I think you've come up with a great as well, I already know Spanish, English, and I take French in school. and since I always have a lot of free time I think Korean would be awesome. I'm going to check this out and I support this thread.

Edit: So, I'm pretty intrigued by the first lessons. Especially at how simple it is to recognize vowels! o_o

I appreciate that :)

Again once you check out that link and go through the lessons, you'll be reading it like a pro. Though you won't understand it quite yet.

Korean seems to be a better organized style of writing, the way they break it down into syllables, and I found it to be a lot of fun once I gave it a try.

So just to let you know where I'm at: I started playing this game 2 days ago. And I've learned how to read Korean.

Edit: Oh and good luck on the ASVAB :p

Reading the Korean will make it fun. It's almost like a giant puzzle now.. taking notes as I do that lesson. I will never forget that O is basically the vowel a, and you add it to the syllables to make it connect. I'm liking this a lot. For people who take this on seriously, DBO won't be a problem. In time of course.

Oh ok cool, don't spoil the fun! I'm having fun with this! ^^

And thanks, my sister got a high score on the ASVAB when she took it, and she guessed. So hopefully I do well on it as well.

OT- Korean would be awesome to say for it to be a 4th language o_O
