You did not enter the correct format for the Avatar Background Image field. Please read the field description for the expected format.

Fixed, should be able to set it back to nothing now.
I've added another option. If anyone doesn't want to view the other users' background avatars all you need to do is set "Avatar Background Display" to "Don't Display".
I've moved the option to display avatar backgrounds to "Edit Options" and all of the other avatar backgrounds to "Edit Avatar". You can also see what your avatar background will look like on this page. Please report any bugs if you come across them.
