But overpriced DLC is the gaming industry in a nutshell these days. How else will they make money?
Either way, I'm kind of out of the loop with video games these days. I know CAPCOM's been screwing over Mega Man fans and releasing a dozen version of Street Fighter games for ages, but have done anything lately that makes their business ethic substantially worse than it already was lately? If not, I'm pretty neutral toward them. It's not like they're a terrible company, even if they're clearly not the best. A dozen versions of Street Fighter with overpriced DLC is still preferable to buying a new version of Madden every year with minimal changed content if you ask me.
Gaming has become alot more mainstream in recent years and it has resulted in company's trying to milk the cash cows dry while also only releasing shit they know will sell.
The reason Capcom is spoon feeding street fighter fans while neglecting megaman fans is due to the competitive scene for street fighter. They know the games/dlc for that will sell in a heart beat as it has a much bigger fan base. Lets not forget that tournaments are great for making money. Paying for a quality streams, merchandise from being there, to the very tickets you may have to buy. It's not exactly a secret why capcom keeps canceling every megaman game in the works.
When something becomes to popular, it becomes a double edged sword. The pros of course being better quality and investment, as well as not having to deal with as much social stigma. But the major down side is that company's will force the developers they invest in to produce safer choices. This is the reason we so many FPS. They are easy and quick to pick up and play. They attract a large crowd and have proven that all you need to do to sell them is to slap an additional number to the title such as Halo 2-3 or add a fresh title to attract more attention such as Modern warfare, Black ops, and Ghost. Why break what isn't broken?
As for DLC with the internet getting faster and easier to obtain world wide it was only natural progression that it would need to be exploited. If a company can make a download for the same price as a physical copy, they will. Just because it saves them production value and they can jack up physical copy's as "Collectors edition" and slap together a bunch of cheep crap just so they can double-triple the price. then of course the next step is to remove non essential features to be used as "additional content". This is just another cut corners cost reduction ploy. Instead of paying the developers longer to make additional content, they can just sell premade content as "additional".
It's greedy corporate policy's such as these that tend to split the community in two about how much people love/hate them (such as EA, Capcom, Ubisoft), while smaller indie company's tend to have an universal love from the gaming community (such as Minecraft, or anything related to steam really).
Dragon dogma, is one of the few games Capcom didn't completely train wreck.
It's actually a quality game.
My mates told it's a decent game... May try it soon.
My issue is with the company is their lack of love for their fans. Now I don't see it as they should just make the game I like. But I mean, they could really look into whats done the best out of their releases. They'd only have look on their own company forums to see.
Look how many popular games they have discontinued for an "Amaing new project", which ends up being bad or just okay.
